The recently completed ADECA / Federal Railroad Administration Feasibility Study – Phase 2, Intercity Passenger Rail Montgomery to Mobile, AL is now available for review online.
This Phase 2 study complements an earlier feasibility assessment done for the Birmingham to Montgomery service corridor. The overall rail service corridor from Birmingham to Mobile is one of SRC’s top four strategic priorities. We are pleased to have provided $20,000 in cash match contributions to help fund this study. Our sincere appreciation to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), as well as the City and County of Montgomery, Alabama, for their leadership in this work. By looking to a future with multi-modal transportation options having a robust passenger rail service linked to the national system, Alabama has the potential to significantly improve its economic resilience with increased access to jobs, health services, education, and development.
